As we all weather this coronavirus storm together we can find some comfort in leaning on a Higher Power. When I am struggling with bouts of deep anxiety I will often repeat the mantra “Let go and Let God” over and over in my head. This bible verse can hopefully comfort you in these uncertain times! Psalm 91 New Living Translation (NLT) Psalm 91 1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. 3 For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. 4 He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. 5 Do not be afraid of the terrors…
No one has to tell you that life can be hard sometimes. The stock market is down, the coronavirus appears to be a potential global pandemic and uncertainty abounds. But we must press ahead! I was in church a few weeks ago and this bible verse really struck a chord with me so I thought I would share it. 2 Corinthians 4:8-18 New Living Translation (NLT) 8 We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. 9 We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. 10 Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies. 11 Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be…
Last month I finally pulled the trigger and quit a job I hated that was slowly killing me. I’d been there over 9 years and it was time for me to leave. I’d worked my way up over the years to a Vice President position but the drama, office politics, constant pressure, and toxic environment had finally taken its toll and I couldn’t do it anymore. As crazy as it sounds it was still hard for me to leave because I knew I would miss my team and colleagues who I had worked with for the past several years. I left for another job for more money and more responsibility at the Senior Vice President level. It’s been weird so far being the new kid on the block. Who knows if this gig will work out but I figure its worth a shot. The jury is still out on my…
If you feel like giving up…don’t! No one said this life would be easy. I know…I have to remind myself this everyday. Take this blog for example. I’ve been working on it it for over four years and guess what? Some days I don’t get any visits. On a good day I will get 10 visits or so. But taking my own advice I refuse to give up. I enjoy writing, and this blog is an outlet that let’s me improve my writing skills. I also hope that in some small way that I am able to help just one person that finds them self here. Sure, it would be great if I was one of those bloggers that could support themselves from all the money their site is pulling in. But that’s not my reality. So if you think about giving up, just think about working on a site…
I haven’t had a drop of alcohol in 5 months. I can’t tell you how proud I am of that accomplishment! I’ve been drinking on and off for close to 20 years and realized that this behavior has to be causing damage to my body and that I’m not getting any younger so it was time to stop. I would only drink on Friday and Saturday but I knew I needed to break the cycle. Especially once I came to the realization that I’m an alcoholic. If you are struggling with alcohol addiction I highly recommend the Sober Grid app. The community and the counter was just what I needed to stay motivated and accountable to a community. Knowing how many days I have gone since my last drink keeps me from wanting to start over and the community is super supportive. It’s completely free so give it a try…

What would you do if you weren’t afraid? I first saw this quote years ago when I read Who Moved my Cheese? by Spencer Johnson 20 years ago soon after I had graduated from college. This book is a quick read that changed my life and this quote has stuck with me ever since. This concept does not mean the absence of fear just how you should respond in the midst of it. Many times it is easy to let fear dictate how we respond to situations. I sometimes repeat this saying in my mind before a big presentation or meeting. This concept has given me the courage to speak up in meetings, make decisions that no one else was willing to and invest in rental real estate with all cash during the Great Recession. When I purchased my first rental property it was in 2008 during the height of…
While on vacation I recently finished listening to the audiobook of Unf*ck Yourself:Get Out of Your Head and Into Your Life by Gary John Bishop. As I was spending a week taking a break from a job I hate and spending some desperately needed time to re-connect with my kids (2 and 8) and my wife, I couldn’t have found a better book to read to cut through all the crap and realize that I have the power to change the things in my life that are making me stressed and unhappy that need changing. This book really resonated with me and I appreciated how the author got right to the point! This is a quick read and the audiobook was a little over 3 hours so you can finish it in a few days. The author lays out seven assertions that I found really helpful and I hope you…
Now that 2018 is upon us it is time for those New Year’s resolutions. We all know how hard it can be to stay committed to your New Year’s resolutions. Whether it it to lose weight, exercise more, stop drinking we all start out with the best intentions but most of us will fail. But this can be our year to succeed and changes our lives, health and happiness for the better. I recently saw Star Wars The Last Jedi and one of the main characters has a quote that really resonates with me it is Let the past die. Kill it if you have to. So I challenge all of us to kill the bad habits we have held on to by letting go of the past. So what if you’ve tried to lose those 20 pounds countless times in the past and couldn’t seem to do it. This…
